Falls Brook Centre (www.fallsbrookcentre.ca)
grows food to feed the visitors and staff at Falls Brook Centre and
is seeking someone to
cook for
large
groups. We have 2 acres of organic gardens, herbariums and orchards.
Much of the work involved in this position will be food production
and oversight of organic gardens. There will be some preparing food
for weekend events. The position will also entail the overall household
management of Falls Brook Centre’s many buildings, arranging
guest’s accommodations, setting up rooms, laundry and clean-up
are all aspects of this position.
Work plan will vary according to the seasons. During the growing season
work would be split almost 50/50 between the garden and house. Between
harvest and planting time work focuses more on household management.
The ideal candidate has:

Proven leadership experience and personal
motivation

Background in organic and whole food meal preparation
-
Background
in household management
-
An interest in community-based initiatives
and able to work for a variety of groups

A desire to work with
volunteers and interns who are keen to learn about food production,
preservation, drying
of food, preparation
of
meals and other food storage systems
-
Ability to
work on a wood stove some of the time
-
Experience in organic food
production
-
Interest in living in a rural area
Remuneration
5 days/week ideal, but negotiable to 3 days/week. Starting salary based
on experience will be $28,000 to $30,000 per annum, pro-rated.
